Liverpool hero John Aldridge believes it’s time for Darwin Nunez to prove he’s a leader.
Nunez struck twice from the bench to win last Sunday’s game at Newcastle.
Aldridge wrote for the Sunday World: “Darwin Nunez should be the first name on Jurgen Klopp’s list for tonight’s game against Aston Villa at Anfield – but he knows the time to act is now.”
“Nunez’s double at Newcastle last weekend secured a resounding victory for Liverpool and provided a breakthrough for a striker who has struggled to return to his best form since joining the club.”
“Now he should have the chance to prove every week that he can win a game, but he has to confirm that he is up to it.” Nunez’s huge £85 million price tag meant the Uruguay striker was expected to get off to a flying start when he arrived from Benfica last summer.
“However, he has struggled to establish himself in the Premier League and, after missing some great opportunities, his confidence was waning.
Klopp and his coaching staff have a long track record of improving players on the training pitch, and with Nunez having spent a year at Liverpool, the time has come for him to step up and take on a leadership role.
