Dominik Szoboszlai was a happy figure after scoring his first Liverpool goal and grabbing all three points in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa.
The number 8 opened his doors to the Reds with a powerful attack in the 3rd minute at Anfield, while a Matty Cash own goal and a Mohamed Salah shot improved the hosts’ lead.
Signed in the summer from RB Leipzig, Szoboszlai was delighted to finally be on the scoresheet after falling into threatening situations in his previous three appearances for the club. I’m really happy to have scored my first goal at Anfield. I don’t think I could have wished for anything better he said.Â
“To be honest, I already said it. We practiced in training and I think two weeks ago I had two situations in a row. I shoot the ball 50 meters above the goal.
“Today I focused even more on hitting the ball well and hitting the target. It worked.”
Speaking of the Anfield crowd, he added: “We do everything for them and for us too. “But we always want the stadium to be full and when they come we want to show them that’s what they come for.”
Jurgen Klopp made three changes to his line-up for this match: Darwin Nunez, Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones received starting spots.
Szoboszlai believes Liverpool are well-equipped in all areas of quality and skill level, with Ryan Gravenberch, who arrives on deadline day, also watching.
“To be honest, we have a very good team,” he said. “Joel [Matip] started really well today and played all the way. Joey also fought against all the balls. “We need these kind of players. We need everyone to be healthy because if something happens you have to be ready.
“We have to be calm, we have to work hard – as we have done up to now – and everything will come”.
