Jurgen Klopp has begged the Liverpool fans to postpone singing his song until after the game and to instead focus all of their support on the players who are out there for the full 90 minutes.
Reds supporters have grown accustomed to hearing Klopp’s name screamed throughout Anfield, frequently in the style of his signature song, “I’m so Glad (That Jurgen is a Red),” which is set to the beat of the Beatles’ iconic song “I Feel Fine.”
Klopp has now ‘politely requested’ that the Anfield supporters refrain from praising him during games and instead focus all of their enthusiasm on supporting the players.
This is a problem that has come up a few times recently, most notably after the Bournemouth victory when Klopp appeared to become agitated when his name was chanted.
Prior to this weekend’s encounter against Aston Villa, the Reds boss reaffirmed his request that fans refrain from singing his song during games in his programme notes.
He made careful to convey his “gratitude” for the Kop’s kindness and support, though.
The first thing I have to say about it is that I absolutely love it, stated Klopp of his song. I find it difficult to express how meaningful it is to have a song dedicated to me by the club’s fans, but it is an honor that I could never have imagined receiving while I was manager of Liverpool.
“I mention this because I do not want there to be any miscommunication. The song’s existence is wonderful. It’s sung, which I adore. More than anything else, I am humbled by the desire of the fans I adore to sing it at Anfield. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
“The only exception I make is that I would love it if it became a song for after matches are over, because it is much easier and better to do it in these notes than it is in the heat of a game.
“During games, I want the players to receive all the support. They need to know they have your support, and I want you to encourage them and keep them on their toes.
