Ryan Gravenberch completes Liverpool move

Ryan Gravenberch, a Dutch midfielder, has been acquired by Liverpool from Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old signed a five-year contract that runs through the conclusion of the 2027–28 season to join Jurgen Klopp’s squad for an estimated £34.2 million.

Gravenberch follows fellow midfielders Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister to the club for the 2023–24 season as the fourth new face to join Anfield this summer.

After just one complete season at the Allianz Arena, where he made 34 appearances and contributed to one goal and one assist, Gravenberch leaves Bayern. He will wear the number 38 jersey for Liverpool.

The 21-year-old, who played for Ajax under Erik ten Hag’s tutelage, became a member of the Bavarians’ squad last summer after becoming one of Europe’s most sought-after talents there.

While playing for Amsterdam, Gravenberch won three Eredivisie championships, but after moving to Bayern, he found it difficult to win over Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann.

Only three of Gravenberch’s 24 Bundesliga outings saw him start from the opening kickoff; the usual engine room duo of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka took their places.

“I’m overjoyed. I’m thrilled that the transaction is finalized and that I can now officially call Liverpool home,” Gravenberch told the club’s website. “From the outside, it appears to be one of the largest clubs in the world. Also, I believe that the stadium and the supporters are excellent from the outside. That being the case, [it was the correct club].

“I can’t wait to hear You’ll Never Walk Alone and I’m definitely looking forward to being at Anfield. Now that we have a new beginning, I’m going to give this club everything I’ve got. My goal is to receive awards. Play a lot and show them who we are and who I am to win prizes.
