On the day of the transfer deadline, Liverpool is likely to sign midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, beating out late interest from bitter rivals Manchester United.
After Liverpool and Bayern Munich reached an agreement on a deal worth an original estimated £34 million, the 21-year-old took a flight from Germany to the UK this morning on the final day of the transfer window.
He joined the German giants last summer after transferring from Dutch club Ajax to the Allianz Arena, but after just one season in Bavaria, he appears to be headed for the Premier League.
Gravenberch is expected to join a revamped midfield for Liverpool made up of players who have all been signed recently, partnering with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo as recruits into the team.
However, strong rivals Manchester United also require players in the engine room, so Liverpool is not the only team that has required to add players to the center midfield this summer.
The Old Trafford team has been extensively connected with a deal for Fiorentina’s Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat. Erik ten Hag’s team just lost Mason Mount to injury and sold Fred this summer.
In an effort to both strengthen their roster and defeat their fierce rivals, United is claimed to have made a late move for Gravenberch. This shows how eager they are to add central midfield reinforcements to their team.
Since April, Jurgen Klopp’s team has been interested in signing the midfielder, and as a result, Gravenberch has only wanted to join the Anfield team.
According to Northcroft, Liverpool manager Klopp delivered a “powerful pitch” to Gravenberch, and the five-year contract on the table shows how highly they regard the player.
As a result of United’s “late” entry into the Gravenberch transfer and “less clear” communication with the midfielder, the midfielder was more inclined to move to Anfield than to Old Trafford.
