With Celtic, Nat Phillips will be on loan

Celtic has expressed interest in signing Nat Phillips on a season-long loan.

The 26-year-old hasn’t played a single minute of football for the Reds so far in 2023–24, and it has long been anticipated that he will depart Liverpool this summer, either permanently or on loan.
During the 2020–21 season, Phillips unexpectedly thrived as a severe injury crisis caused him to move up the pecking order. Phillips has made just eight appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s team since that campaign, in which he appeared 20 times in all competitions, and is now thought to be unnecessary.

The Times says that Celtic are closing in on a bid for the center back, with Brendan Rodgers speeding preparations to bring in another defender due to an injury issue. Championship clubs Leeds United and Middlesbrough had been predicted to move for the center back in recent weeks.
While Stephen Welsh is recovering from surgery, the Scottish champions have lost Cameron Carter-Vickers and Maik Nawrocki to hamstring problems. On Sunday, they play in the season’s first Old Firm game against Rangers.

Although Phillips’ departure has long been predicted, if it is official this week, Liverpool will only have two senior center backs who are healthy and available for the matchup against Aston Villa on Sunday.
