After their £1.7 million offer was rejected on Wednesday, Manchester United will continue their efforts to capture Sofyan Amrabat on a loan.
Despite Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp holding negotiations with the Moroccan midfielder this month, United are in a strong position to capture the Fiorentina player. Amrabat’s agent previously announced that teams are interested in signing the midfielder this summer, including two Premier League opponents.
Following the departures of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, the Merseyside reds are still looking to strengthen their midfield options and are moving forward with a move for Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich. United have also expressed interest in the Dutchman, but Anfield is more likely to be his final destination.
Amrabat’s representative and Reds manager Klopp met earlier this year, and Amrabat was previously coached by Erik ten Hag at FC Utrecht. Although it seems that the latter is the deciding factor, Fiorentina must still come to terms with Amrabat’s desire to join United.
United offered a guaranteed loan fee of €1 million (£ 865 000), with a second payment of the same amount scheduled for January. According to The Athletic, the Reds Devils would have a break provision in that contract, thus a renewal at that time was not assured.
Amrabat had been assured in January that he may go in the summer, but he is keen to leave Fiorentina. According to a recent report in the Dutch daily AD, Reds manager Klopp even spoke with Amrabat in an effort to persuade him to transfer to Anfield, but the transaction fell through.
