After selling Jordan Henderson to Al-Ettifaq and Fabinho to Ittihad Club, Liverpool acquired Wataru Endo from VfB Stuttgart, but Jurgen Klopp still desires another midfielder before the summer transfer window closes. According to Milan Keskin of Football Transfers, Liverpool is interested in Mats Wieffer and is in ‘close touch’ to sign the player.
The Reds’ engine room is completely fresh thanks to a summer departure. Not only did Fabinho and Henderson go, but Naby Keta, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also moved on to Werder Bremen and Besiktas. In exchange, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis MacAllister were signed.
Despite the fact that Thiago, Curtis Jones, and Stefan Bajcetic are still under contract, Klopp doesn’t seem entirely satisfied with his alternatives if he wants to bring Wieffer to Anfield. That is not to argue, though, that he wouldn’t be a fantastic addition for most sides. The 23-year-old left Excelsior in 2022 to join Feyenoord, and since then, he has made 40 appearances in all competitions, with three goals and seven assists.
In 18 Eredivisie starts last season, Wieffer contributed to six goals. He averaged one successful dribble per game, three tackles and interceptions per game, and one opportunity created per game. The Dutch international, who made his international debut in March, is an all-around midfielder, allowing Klopp to pair him with any other player.
